I've converted the Feb Courtroom Gazette to jpg files so that everyone can view it in the blog. This is the first, not the final version. I like this first version as it features more articles and hence shows the hard work behind the team.

Please forgive the team behind this as we're all trying to figure a way to post the gazette in the blog.

Meanwhile, please enjoy the fruits of labour of the Gazette team.

What's your comments?

This is the reply from a minister with regards to foreign worker in a coffee shop. Do you agree with him? Do you disagree? What are your reasons?

They're young, they're foreign, and they're helping to save your job, 18 Apr 2008

By Keith Lin

YOUNG and chatty foreign waitresses have been helping draw customers to some Housing Board coffee shops.

But they have also been raising eyebrows among some local co-workers.

One drinks seller at a coffee shop in Jurong West complained to Minister Lim Boon Heng that she felt threatened by a sweet, young lady from China who sells beer at the same joint.

She was worried that allowing such foreigners to work at coffee shops would undercut her wages. She was already working two jobs to make ends meet.

But the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office saw things differently.

The co-worker was drawing men in droves to the coffee shop, he said. This meant brisk business which, in turn, helped the local drinks lady keep her job.

Recounting this anecdote at a forum yesterday, he said: 'Obviously, if Tiger or Carlsberg asks this mature lady to sell beer, it will not have the same result.'

His broader point was that every person, local or foreign, had their own strengths.

Rare giant turtle found in Viet lake after 3-year hunt

HANOI - US RESEARCHERS have found a rare giant turtle in northern Vietnam after a three-year hunt - a find sure to thrill both scientists and locals, who consider the animal a mythical creature.

The Swinhoe's soft-shell turtle was believed to be extinct in the wild. Only three of the turtles are known to exist in captivity - two are at zoos in China, and one is in Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi.

But US and Vietnamese researchers recently focused their search for the world's largest freshwater turtle on a lake west of the capital after residents claimed to have spotted the animal there.

The turtle - which can live more than 100 years - was photographed on the lake's surface, announced the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, which sponsored the search along with the Cleveland Zoological Society.

'This is an incredibly important discovery because the Swinhoe's turtle is one of the most critically endangered species of turtle in the world,' said Mr Doug Hendrie, Vietnam-based coordinator of the zoo's Asian Turtle Programme.

'This species has legendary status among the people of Vietnam, so this is perhaps an opportunity for the legend to live on,' he said in a statement dated on Wednesday.

According to a Vietnamese legend, a 15th-century farmer-turned-rebel leader, Le Loi, used a magical sword to drive out Chinese invaders and found the dynasty named after him.

When Le Loi, by now the emperor, went boating on Hoan Kiem Lake one day, a turtle appeared, took his sacred sword and dived to the bottom of the lake, keeping the weapon safe for the next time Vietnam may have to defend its freedom.

The Courtroom Gazette

People, I am not pushing y'all to hurry up and finish the Hopes, dreams and future thingy and the dedications, but please try to think about it and start on it now as loads of ppl are coming up to me and telling me that they don't know what to write in the write-up for HDF. OK, hopefully you have been paying attention in today's S.S class. I think that whatever Mr. Wan talked about today on education was a tad helpful, don't you think? And if you are not sure on the steps of education, please refer to your 6A S.S textbook on pg. 73's chart. Basically, just follow the normal steps of education. yeh? u get what I mean now?

So, please, guys, I need the write-ups real quickly. So far I've only got 2 submissions. For those who havent checked your www.lead.com.sg e-mail, please do so now for more details.

Just a reminder:

-I am OK with some grammatical errors in your text, but DO NOT give me sloppy stuff that totally dosen't make any sense, come on, your eng isnt tht bad.

-Also, the write-up is due in May/June those who fail to submit it in quickly will be hounded by me until I get it (I'm sorry, I noe it's really harsh, but it's difficult to collate 38 write-ups into one issue of the newsletter)

- Those who havent read the previous TCG post, YOU DO NOT NEED TO GIVE ME THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL YOU WANT TO GO, JUST TELL ME WHICH STEPS YOU WANNA TAKE AFTER GRADUATIN FROM EPPS.

- Please send all submissions to limjostreasure@hotmail.co.uk or my lead.com.sg e-mail as I chack it everyday.

-Dedications to Teachers :10-25 words -at the least
HDF write-up: 45-70 words-at the least

- 5 Honesty pupils (2007) are allowed to do the above assignments as well, however, I will not force you if you dun wanna.

-ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SENT TO ME IN E-MAIL FORM, NO PDFS OR ANY OTHER FORMATS. ONLY E-MAIL TEXTS.

Dearest Friends

Dear friends,

I know you have a bad impression on me.

I feel trapped and suffocated.

What good are friends when they don't support you?

I can make a ton of friends in school.
But, because I'm short and not very assertive, you would push me around.

Sometimes when I bring things to school and show them to everione,
they would call me a showoff.

But I come with good intentions. REALLY!

Whenever I do something light, someone would rub salt on the wound.

Why?
Because they think that I'm a pushover.
that I overdo things.

most of the time I feel misunderstood.
Ppl scold me and scream at me for almost no reason,
even before I get to explain exactly what happened.

I dread going back to class after mothertongue and wish that time would freeze.
Not because I hate you all.
Because I really have friends there which I can count on and don't play the fool.

But I know you'll never forgive me properly because deep inside you still bear a grudge against
me.

And why?

Because reputation is what people THINK you are.
Character is what you REALLY are.

I'm a bit low on social quotient here.
So please don't jump to conclusions.

My reputation, in this class, is not very good.
I wish I can turn back the clock...
...and undo everything.

I know about your grudge against me.

I sincerly thank Mr Wan for speaking up for me all the time.
But I know it's high time when I stand up on my own.

I know
I have a small voice which is not very loud
A sense of humour which doesn't give ppl a sense of adrenalin
A horribly lazy attitude
But I just wanna
Drop it all down

and make real friends...

so please,
stop holding a knife behind me.
and understand my intentions.

(I will no longer stay anonymous on the blog.
So that you can understand the good person in me.)

Jean.

Re: A comment on ''The Courtroom Gazette''

Firstly, i agree with what mr wan said about joslyn. Its not easy to leave your friends behind and move to another school or country.

Heres the comment Mr wan wrote:

''I've said it before and I'll say it again. We do not condone any comment that promotes negativity among 5H 2007 or 6H 2008 pupils.

I've deleted 2 offensive comments that come after Joslyn's comment.I've given Joslyn the green light to go ahead with a compilation of every 5H 2007's and 6H 2008's pupils' feelings as they have reached P6.

This is not done with a selfish motive.

This is done with a mature mindset that serves to create a memory for everyone involved in this blog.Imagine, you're going to part after 2008 and probably never see each other anymore for the rest of your lives.

Is 5H or 6H a place you would want to leave your footprint behind? Or is it a place you can't wait to leave, have no feelings for or dread staying in?Do you want to be remembered by your friends by leaving some of your thoughts in a book compiled of everybody's thoughts?Or do you want to be a piece or dust that would be blown away in 2009?

I can tell you for 100% that everyone who leaves P6 actually misses their days in EPPS. Is that memory going to fade for you?Or do you want to bring back a souvenir that will remind you that you've ever been part of a great class which you have no regrets staying in?For me, I'm leaving a piece behind in this compilation.

Something that some of you want to remember me by. A mean teacher you've ever suffered under. A crazy teacher who makes you fear and laugh in class. How about you? Are you leaving anything behind for this class? Or are you a piece of memory that will fade away over time?I presume this compilation will be given to those who contributed.

If you choose not to be included, so be it. Do no harm to those who seek for a piece of memory they want to have. Targeting at Joslyn is no doubt a childish behaviour. She meant well. She knows the feeling of parting after being in 2 other schools in 2 other countries.

She might no longer have the chance to keep those past memories in a compilation. But she still has the chance to keep 5H and 6H memories in a compilation, a compilation meant for those who share the same thoughts.

Thoughts that come in the breadth of, "What was my class like in P6? Was it a moment I'd like to remember? A moment I'd like to keep in a part of my heart forever"

Cast your unpleasant feelings for Joslyn aside if you have any.

This is not a case of "It's Joslyn again.." This is a case of "How do you want to be remembered by your friends?"

If you have been in 2 other schools, you have been through this twice.

It's a rather painful feeling. If you've only been in EPPS, you'll only experience this pain in 2009. By then, it's already too late to say, "I miss you all...."

From, A disappointed Mr Wan''

I hope that you understand the fact that you might not see your Friends for a long time after leaving EPPS.

I experience the same thing. I tried to run away from the fact that i was going to leave Singapore soon but the truth was that i was going to leave one way or the other.

Don't start shooting your mouth off like a smart Alex unless you have gone thought the same thing as Joslyn.

In my opinion, Joslyn is trying to soften the pain that you will experience after leaving EPPS.

Trust me. It's not a nice feeling at all.

Time flies. Take action before its too late.

I hope that you comtribute to the final post of ''The Courtroon Gazette''.

Best Regards,
Andrew Tay

Women Scholar (For Muhammad's Channel News Elias Group)

The Straits Times, March 6 2008

Women of the Year

TWO women who flew Singapore's flag high on the international stage - Dr Noeleen Heyzer, 59, and Ms Melissa Aratani Kwee, 35 - have been recognised for their contributions by Her World magazine.

Last night, at a gala dinner at Four Seasons Hotel, they were named Woman of the Year and Young Woman Achiever, respectively.

Foreign Minister George Yeo presented the crystal trophy to Dr Heyzer; Ms Kwee is in Bangalore, India, so her sister picked up the award on her behalf.

A National University of Singapore graduate, Dr Heyzer is the first Singaporean woman in the United Nations (UN) system to hold the rank of undersecretary-general.

She has championed women's issues within the UN and the Security Council for more than a decade and is credited with putting women's issues high on the UN's agenda.

Ms Kwee, a Fulbright Scholar, has initiated ground-breaking projects against commercial sexual exploitation of women and for financial education for migrant women workers.

She has also spearheaded leadership education projects for youth.

The Courtroom Gazette

people, i need EVERY1's help around here.

here's what we are doing for the December issue for the class newsletter. We are going to get everyone to write about their hopes, dreams and future and dedications to be put on the newsletter. Everyone HAS to do it. it dosent have to be very personal, just on where you wanna go to after primary school (secondary school>>>>>JC/Poly/ITE>>>>>University/ Private Institutes>>>>>>Working). It has to be about at the least, 45 words. You dont have to tell us which school or whatever you wanna go to, but if you want, you can.

About the dedications, it's something rather...........private. Its not anything inappropriate, relax, just that we cant exactly discuss this over the blog. I'll tell you more about on lead.com.sg (so go check your lead e-mail NOW!!!), or e-mail. Or whatever. For the dedications, I need loads of people to do it. It's the end of the year issue, and i need to get it done fast.

OK, so let me wrap this thing up again......

-EVERYONE MUST DO THE HOPES, DREAMS AND FUTURE.

- I NEED A LOT OF PEOPLE TO DO DEDICATIONS TO OUR FRIENDS AND TEACHERS (PREFERABLY TEACHERS)

-EVERYONE MUST DO THE ABOVE AND HAND IT TO ME FAST. OR I'LL SLAVE WHIP YA'LL. OK, JUST JOKING. BUT I WILL PUSH YA'LL IF I DONT GET IT IN TIME.

-E-MAIL ALL OF YOUR SUBMISSIONS TO MY E-MAIL: limjostreasure@hotmail.co.uk

So pls, guys, hurry!! thnks a lot!!!

Robotics Room for Use after School

Dear class,

I'll need all of you to work on the questions based on the PowerPoint slides on Environment. Those who do not have Internet or lead.com.sg access could either go to your friend's place or stay back in the Robotics Room on Tue after school to work on the questions. (They're pretty short actually)

Those who need your lead.com.sg password reset can place in the "comment" segment of this post. I'll reset your password back to "learning" and post in a new comment.

I still need parent volunteer to go along with us to the Science Centre as I've got no reply so far. This is quite saddening.

If your parent can make it, please post in the "comment" segment to let us all know.

Thank you very much.

Singapore Science Centre Trip

Dear class,

Please inform your parents that 6H will be going on a Science Centre trip to watch an Earth Day show on Environment on 9th April, Wednesday, after school. The time is from 2.30 pm to 5.30pm.

Good news is we're the first class to be there! The rest of the P6 will be going 2 weeks later.

You'll learn about what is happening to the environment and how it is affected by humans and the impact of the climatic changes on all of us.

I'll be issuing the consent form on Monday.

I'll need a parent volunteer for this session. Please let me know if your parent can participate as a parent volunteer.

Best regards,
Mr Wan

P/S: The PowerPoint on the graphs which you drew in the Computer Lab have been placed in the announcement page in lead.com.sg. You may label the different lines on the graph. We'll work on the questions on Tue.

All the Maths weekly questions came from these books, in case you're wondering why they're so hard. hehehe
The picture below is emailed to me by Joslyn. They're the correct ones that I've mentioned.
